What is a compaction test?

A compaction test, often referred to as a compaction control test, is a geotechnical engineering procedure performed to assess the compaction characteristics of soil. The test helps in determining the optimum moisture content and maximum dry density that can be achieved for a particular type of soil under specific compaction efforts. These properties are crucial in designing foundations, embankments, and other structures to ensure the soil can bear the required loads while maintaining stability and minimizing settlement.
